I Spent 6 Months Studying 191 Articles by an American and Found the Truth 99% of People Miss

280K Followers — What Makes Him Special?#

I rarely recommend a single person on my blog.

But Dan Koe is an exception.

He’s one of the most influential creators in the US solopreneur space: 280,000 people subscribe to his newsletter, his top YouTube video has 1.7 million views, and he earns over $1 million a year — solo, no team.

More importantly, he wrote all his methodologies as articles and published them openly on his blog.

Over the past 6 months, I read all 191 of his articles and organized them systematically.

Today, I’m writing this to share the one thing that stuck with me the most.

You Can’t Improve Something That Doesn’t Exist#

Most people do things in the wrong order.

We were taught growing up: learn the skill first, then make money. perfect the product first, then sell. get everything ready first, then start.

Dan Koe says this is the mindset trap that keeps people from ever starting.

There’s one line of his I’ve reread countless times:

“You can’t improve something that doesn’t exist.”

Translation: just make something, even if it sucks. You can only improve what already exists. You can only get feedback once you start moving. You only understand what customers truly need after your first sale.

It sounds simple, but it broke my years-long habit of “waiting for perfection.”


Four Pillars — Skip One, and It Falls Apart#

He distilled the solopreneur journey into four pillars.

No matter what you’re building, you have to push all four forward at once:

Brand Who you are, what you stand for. A brand isn’t what you say — it’s what others perceive through your content.

Content What you write, what you teach. Content is the source of all your traffic and the lowest-cost way to build trust.

Offer What you sell, who you help, what problem you solve. Your first offer doesn’t need to be perfect, but it has to exist.

Marketing How you let people know about your product. Marketing isn’t harassment — it’s consistently communicating your values.

Most people get stuck on one pillar while thinking they’re working on all of them.

Like: doing content but no product. Result? Two years in, you have followers but zero income.

Or: building a product but no content. Result? The product is ready, but no one knows it exists.

All four pillars. Every single one.

You Don’t Need to Research Strangers#

Another core idea of his completely changed how I think about “finding your niche.”

The traditional startup approach: do market research, find a niche, then enter.

Dan Koe says this is a waste of time.

His methodology is called the Experience Model:

You are your own customer avatar.

The problem you’re solving right now is your best product direction.

You don’t need to research strangers. You just need to answer one question: What problem do I most want to solve right now?

Then document your process, package it as a product, and sell it to people with the same struggle.

That’s the simplest path to starting a solopreneur journey.
